The Appalachian Trail Conservancy (ATC) is the volunteer-based nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation and management of the famous Appalachian National Scenic Trail, which runs 2,175 miles from Maine to Georgia. Each year, an estimated 4 million people enjoy the scenic trail including a number of “thru-hikers” – those who complete the entire trail in a single season. The ATC works with the National Park Service to maintain, protect, and preserve the trail to provide outdoor recreation and educational opportunities for trail visitors.
